M-West Ward has 21 identified Garbage Vulnerable Points, making it one of Mumbai's worst-affected areas for illegal garbage dumping. As part of a citywide cleanliness drive, the BMC has eliminated several garbage hotspots, installed CCTV cameras at dumping-prone locations and stepped up surveillance to prevent them from returning.
Removing a pile of garbage is the easy part. The real challenge begins the next day. A place stays clean only when the same waste doesn't reappear, and that depends on more than a single clean-up drive. It depends on consistent waste collection, effective enforcement, and the everyday choices of the people who live and work there.
Garbage doesn't appear on its own. Someone dumps it. Someone looks the other way. Over time, what begins as a single act becomes a familiar sight, until an empty corner quietly turns into another garbage hotspot.
That's why cleanliness isn't something achieved in a day. It is built over time through systems that work, rules that are enforced, and a community that refuses to accept illegal dumping as normal. The success of this drive won't be measured by how many hotspots were cleared this week, but by how many never return.
