The Mumbai Monorail has received the required safety clearances, and trial runs have resumed. Yet, commuters are still waiting for an official date on when passenger services will restart.
The good news is that the system appears to be moving towards reopening. The difficult part is that people who depend on it are still left without a clear timeline.
For commuters, progress isn't measured by inspections completed or trial runs conducted. It's measured by something much simpler: whether they can rely on the service as part of their daily routine.
Announcements certainly build hope. But without clarity on when a service will actually return, they also leave commuters planning around uncertainty.
Public transport isn't truly ready because another milestone has been achieved. It's ready when people can step onto a train, plan their commute with confidence, and know that the service will be there when they need it.
Infrastructure is measured in journeys, not announcements.
