Happy Weekend Chembur Family. Happy Independence Day 🇮🇳♥️
"Hi, I’m Chembur. India and I have been growing up together since 1947. Let me tell you about it.
Some say I’m named after a crab species called Chimboree. But that’s a story for another day.
Today is India’s birthday.
So I thought, why don’t I tell you a little about how India and I grew together?
Not to brag, but I even played my little part in helping India grow. But let’s start from the beginning of our friendship.
Before 1947, I was a village on Trombay Island. Green, quiet, and very different from how I look now.
Then India became free, and my life changed with it, forever.
I was no longer quiet. My lanes got busy, homes multiplied, and markets came alive. All thanks to my friends from across the border who chose me as their home after Partition.
And soon, India wanted my help with building up. Trombay and I joined forces, for food, defence, fuel, and power, to help build the India of tomorrow.
(Coughs) No, it’s not a cold. It’s just the AQI. Well, nation-building came with a few trade-offs, didn’t it?
Not all’s bad about the air, though. Catch that aroma? Something’s cooking in my friend’s kitchen, wafting through my streets.
Over time, my friendship with India only kept growing, and just like my friend India, I too kept upgrading through the dreams and sacrifices of people from all backgrounds and faiths.
And this is how I look today, changed and upgraded. Old settlements giving way to new projects. Railways have company in the metro and monorail, and roads have grown into flyovers and highways.
I’ve changed a lot since 1947.
But have I grown old? No. NEVER.
I’m still becoming. Just like my friend India.
Happy Independence Day, once again ❤️🇮🇳.”
Thanks for tuning into my neighbourhood broadcast.
Catch you in the next one.
