16 Runners to Begin 'Ludo-Style' 135-km Race from Chembur's Diamond Garden
Bombay Running's unique team event, "Pachisi," is set to begin its 135-km journey from Diamond Garden in Chembur to Pune University on April 10, 2026. This race, inspired by Ludo, will involve four teams and 16 runners whose required distance at each switch point will be determined purely by the roll of a dice.
Major BMC Tender Targets Eastern Express Highway Upgrades Up To Chembur's Amar Mahal
A significant portion of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) recent ₹1.29 billion tender for express highway repairs is dedicated to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), with work specifically extending to Amar Mahal Junction in Chembur. Approximately ₹60 crore is allocated to the EEH to resurface a crucial 7.9-kilometre stretch running from Ghatkopar directly into the Chembur area. This improvement, using the specialized microsurfacing technique, is a major civic undertaking intended to enhance the longevity and safety of the key commuter route relied upon daily.
Architectural Finishing Begins on Three Key Chembur Metro Stations
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has accelerated the readiness of Metro Line 2B by awarding the architectural finishing contract, which directly impacts three critical Chembur stations: Chembur (an interchange with the Monorail), Diamond Garden, and Shivaji Chowk. The ₹201.49 crore contract covers essential works like external facade construction, interior fit-outs, water supply, and drainage systems for a set of seven stations along the D.N. Nagar to Mandale corridor. This major development marks the final construction push to bring passenger-ready infrastructure to the heart of Chembur's public transport network within the 15-month execution period.

Chembur served as the location for Mumbai's inaugural "Shiv Nuala," a traditional all-night ritual and musical rendition central to the Gaddi tribe culture from the Bharmour region of Himachal Pradesh. The event, held in the city for the first time, provided an important platform to showcase the unique spiritual and folk heritage of the Gaddi community, whose devotion to Lord Shiva is expressed through this ancient ritual.
