  • Birth certificate checks tighten after fraud linked to local wards

Proposal to introduce real-time audits of birth certificates is set to be tabled by the BMC, following a fraud controversy involving 237 suspected fake documents. Several of these were traced back to ward offices covering areas like Chembur, Mankhurd and Govandi, raising concerns over how such records were issued. The move aims to bring stricter monitoring of registrations and flag irregularities instantly, after gaps in the system were allegedly exploited during 2024–25.

Players from Chembur Gymkhana are among the teams competing in the 32nd GD Birla Memorial Masters Inter-Club Badminton Tournament at Bombay Gymkhana, which will see 26 clubs and over 220 entries across categories. • Aditya Mehta’s rise from local tables to global snooker titles

Aditya Mehta’s journey from Chembur to becoming one of India’s top cueists stands out for its consistency and resilience. Starting out from local tables in the area, he went on to win major international titles, including a gold at the World Games, while also battling injuries that threatened his career. His comeback and continued success have kept him among the country’s elite in snooker, bringing recognition back to the sport through sheer persistence.

  • ₹296 crore monorail contract awarded for Chembur–Wadala–Jacob Circle line

Monorail line connecting Chembur to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk will be operated and maintained by Power Mech Projects after it secured a ₹296 crore contract for five years. The scope includes running daily services, maintaining trains, stations and depots, and handling signalling and telecom systems across the 19.54 km corridor with 17 stations. The contract also involves improving service reliability on a line that has struggled with frequent breakdowns and low ridership, making this a critical reset for the route’s day-to-day functioning.

  • Chembur doctor loses ₹9.49 lakh in WhatsApp gas bill scam

A 72-year-old cardiologist from Chembur was duped of ₹9.49 lakh after fraudsters posing as gas company officials targeted him via WhatsApp. The victim, Dr. Nilkamal Tandon, was sent a fake message claiming his gas bill was pending and later tricked into installing a malicious APK file under the pretext of an “update.” After making a small payment, multiple OTP-based transactions were carried out from his account without consent, draining the amount in six withdrawals. A case has been registered at Chembur police station, with investigators pointing to remote access gained through the APK as the key method used in the fraud.

  • ₹600 crore redevelopment planned at Swastik Park in Chembur

A major redevelopment is in the pipeline at Swastik Park after Emerald Leisures secured a letter of intent for a residential project expected to generate around ₹600 crore in revenue. The project will span roughly 1.75 lakh sq ft of saleable area and offer 2, 3 and 4 BHK homes, marking the company’s push from hospitality into real estate. Built on a key land parcel in Chembur, the development is positioned as a significant shift in how the company plans to grow, with more such projects expected going forward.

  • Clear skies but humidity keeps it uncomfortable in Chembur

Chembur is seeing mostly clear skies with temperatures around 32–34°C, but high humidity is making it feel hotter than it actually is. Air quality remains mixed, with Chembur recording an AQI of 56, in the satisfactory range, better than several other parts of the city.
