Chembur in the News

  • High Court shift to Bandra could drive housing demand in Chembur

The planned shift of the Bombay High Court to a massive new complex in Bandra East is expected to reshape real estate demand patterns across connected eastern corridors, including Chembur. As legal firms, professionals and support services move closer to the new hub, demand is likely to spill over into nearby residential areas that offer better value and connectivity. Experts point to the Bandra East–Sion–Wadala–Chembur belt as a key beneficiary, with Chembur positioned as a practical “home base” for professionals seeking proximity without paying premium Bandra rates, especially with metro links and improved road connectivity already in place.

  • Road works drag on in Chembur as monsoon nears

Road digging continues across Chembur with 89 roads still under concretisation in its civic zone, even as the BMC says it has completed just over 56% of its citywide project. Across Mumbai, 531 roads remain dug up and another 385 are yet to be taken up, leaving large stretches incomplete weeks before the monsoon. The ₹17,000 crore project, which began in 2024, is now expected to be pushed toward a May 2027 deadline, though officials claim up to 80–85% work will be wrapped up before rains hit.

  • Chembur station among 20 hawker hotspots as BMC rolls out QR trackings

Chembur station has been flagged as one of 20 high-footfall hawker hotspots where the BMC will carry out daily anti-encroachment drives with police support. The plan targets areas with heavy crowding and a high number of unauthorised vendors, with action scheduled in two shifts through the day. At the same time, all licensed hawkers are set to get QR codes by April-end, allowing authorities and the public to instantly verify who is authorised and curb misuse of licences.

  • Execution push in redevelopment could accelerate projects in Chembur

Mumbai’s redevelopment cycle is shifting from approvals to on-ground execution, with developers now focusing on actually completing projects rather than just securing clearances. This transition is expected to benefit areas like Chembur, where multiple housing societies are already in different stages of redevelopment. With funding, approvals and demand largely in place, the next phase is about delivery, which could mean faster timelines and visible progress across ongoing projects in the area.

  • BMC orders demolition of illegal clubhouse at Mysore CHS

The BMC has ordered demolition of a clubhouse inside Mysore CHS in Chembur after the society failed to produce any documents proving the structure’s legality. The action follows findings that no civic approval had been granted for the construction, which residents had long disputed. The structure, reportedly built on land reserved under the development plan, is now set to be removed after authorities concluded it was unauthorised.

  • Hot, humid week continues with no relief in sight for Chembur

The past week in Chembur stayed consistently hot and sticky, with temperatures around 33–35°C, clear to slightly hazy skies, and no rainfall, making afternoons especially uncomfortable. Air quality hovered between satisfactory and moderate. The coming week isn’t offering much change, temperatures are expected to inch up to 35–36°C with humidity staying high and skies mostly clear. With no rain forecast, the heat is likely to feel more intense, especially toward the weekend.

Note: Crime and politics stay out of our coverage.
