Before You Book That “Festive Glow-Up”

Every festive season, the offers start appearing. One-day peels, “instant” skin fixes and Botox appointments promoted through Instagram DMs, all promising to get you camera-ready for Navratri or Diwali.

When the celebrations are around the corner and everyone wants to look their best, these promises can be tempting. But before booking an appointment, there is a more important question to ask: how do you know whether the procedure is safe, the practitioner is qualified, and the result is worth pursuing?

Dr. Vashisht Dikshit, Founder and Aesthetic Surgeon at Sculpta – Bespoke Aesthetics, Chembur, believes the first distinction to understand is that quick and unregulated does not mean quick and safe.

A procedure performed at an unsuitable or unregulated setup can lead to burns, infections and complications that may take considerably longer to address than the original concern. The risk isn't simply about the procedure itself. It also depends on who performs it, where it is performed and what safety standards are followed.

At the same time, Dr. Dikshit cautions against the opposite assumption, that aesthetic procedures are inherently unsafe or that their results never last. When appropriately selected and performed by qualified professionals using proper techniques, many procedures can offer predictable, lasting results. Their suitability and longevity, however, depend on the treatment, the individual and appropriate aftercare.

The procedure matters, but so does the person performing it.

That is why a consultation should involve more than choosing a treatment from a menu. A proper discussion should cover your medical history, what is realistic for your individual anatomy, the expected recovery period, potential risks and what happens if the outcome isn't what you expected.

A reference photograph may help explain what you have in mind, but it cannot determine what is appropriate for your face or skin. And if you're being pressured to make a decision or undergo a procedure on the same day, it is worth stepping back rather than letting the offer dictate your timeline.

Before committing to a festive treatment, Dr. Dikshit recommends checking a few essentials:

  • The practitioner's qualifications: Check that the surgeon or dermatologist has relevant training and qualifications for the specific procedure.

  • The facility and safety protocols: Understand where the procedure will take place and what measures are in place to manage complications.

  • Authentic results: Ask whether the before-and-after photographs show the practitioner's own patients.

  • Honest risk disclosure: Make sure the discussion covers potential complications and limitations, not just the promised benefits.

  • Aftercare and follow-up: Know what support will be available after the procedure and whom to contact if something goes wrong.

There is also a timing question worth considering. A treatment that promises an immediate transformation may not account for swelling, bruising, recovery or the possibility that results will take time to appear. Booking close to a major celebration can leave little room to manage an unexpected reaction or complication.

A festive glow-up doesn't have to be a bad decision. But it shouldn't be a rushed one either.

If you're considering an aesthetic procedure this season, make the decision based on your needs, a qualified professional's advice, realistic expectations and a clear understanding of the risks, not just an attractive offer or a deadline approaching on your calendar.

The best time to ask questions is before the procedure, not after the complications.
