Hello Chembur family.

In today’s edition:

  • Anubhav Singh Bassi

Let's dive in:

Chembur in the News

  • Zen Hospital organizes Walkathon for Diabetic Foot Awareness

Zen Multispeciality Hospital organized a walkathon to raise awareness centered on this year's theme: Diabetic Foot. The event highlighted the crucial need for early detection and care, as even minor foot injuries can escalate into serious complications for people with diabetes. The initiative aimed to educate the public on preventative measures and the importance of healthy foot care.

  • BMC Ropes In NGOs for Hawkers and Footpath Upgrade Ahead of Civic Polls

Ahead of the early 2026 civic elections, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its two-pronged strategy in Chembur (specifically M-West ward), focusing on clearing unauthorized hawkers and upgrading pedestrian infrastructure. The civic body is enlisting non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and cooperatives to deploy labor for the eviction drives and is simultaneously floating tenders aimed at improving walkability by remodeling footpaths, installing street furniture, and appointing agencies to inspect and recommend upgrades to road conditions. This move is part of a wider effort to make sidewalks safer and more accessible.

  • SCLR Extension Causes WEH-Vakola Snarl, Traffic Police Test Fix

The Mumbai Traffic Police and MMRDA have conducted a trial on the Western Express Highway (WEH) at Vakola to ease the heavy traffic congestion that has occurred since the launch of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) extension. The SCLR extension, which aims to provide a signal-free link from Chembur's Eastern Express Highway (EEH) to the Western Express Highway (WEH), is now causing a traffic build-up at Vakola as vehicles descending from the extension merge onto the WEH. During the trial, barricades were used in an effort to separate and streamline the merging traffic, but congestion persisted, prompting authorities to consider modifying the plan before an official traffic diversion notification is issued.

  • BMC to Hold Youth Clean Air Initiative in Chembur on November 28

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will hold a special youth-focused clean air initiative, titled “Youth Action for Clean Air,” in Chembur on November 28, 2025. The programme, organized by the BMC's Environment and Climate Change Department under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), will take place at the Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Management Studies and Research in Chembur from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. The initiative aims to showcase youth-led clean air actions, feature interactive eco-friendly activities, and gather student ideas on sustainability and green lifestyles. College students across the city are encouraged to participate.

Kanchi Seer to Visit Chembur Sri Murugan Temple on November 29

  • Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi, the head of the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, will visit the Chembur Sri Murugan Temple on November 29 as part of his first visit to Mumbai since assuming charge seven years ago. The Seer's visit to the temple is specifically to offer gold idols of a serpent, spear (vel), and peacock—which were donated by a devotee. While the main Maha Kumbhabhishekam led by the 70th pontiff will take place at the SIES Nerul complex on November 27, the Chembur visit is a distinct engagement during his Mumbai tour. The Kanchi Seer will also be stationed at Sri Sankara Matham, Matunga, on November 28 and 29 and is scheduled to visit other prominent temples in the city.
