Chembur in the News
Crest Golfshire: Chembur’s Skyline Set for a ₹1,850 Crore Ultra-Luxury Makeover
Chembur’s real estate landscape is set for a major upscale transformation as Crest Ventures (through its subsidiary Crest Urban Living) partners with Vensco Projects to develop a premium mixed-use project on Golf Course Road. Spanning a 2.5-acre land parcel (approximately 11,000 square metres), the development is expected to generate a massive ₹1,850 crore in revenue. The project, strategically located near the Bombay Presidency Golf Course, will feature luxury residential apartments with a total saleable area of nearly 5 lakh square feet. This joint venture marks a significant "new chapter" for Chembur, capitalizing on the area's growing demand for high-end urban housing and its robust connectivity to major hubs like BKC and South Mumbai.
Chembur Emerges as Persistent Pollution Hotspot
Throughout the second week of January 2026, Chembur has consistently recorded some of the highest pollution levels in Mumbai, with the local air quality frequently plunging into the "Unhealthy" and "Severe" categories. While the city’s overall AQI showed marginal improvements on certain days, Chembur saw a peak AQI of 232 on the morning of January 12 and hit a dangerous 370 earlier in the week, significantly outpacing neighboring suburbs. Local monitoring stations, including Ambedkar Nagar (Chembur), reported consistent "Red Alerts" as particulate matter (PM2.5) reached levels over four times the WHO safety guidelines. This persistent haze, fueled by ongoing construction and localized industrial emissions, continues to pose a severe health risk to Chembur residents, even as other parts of Mumbai breathe slightly easier.
Sahakar Nagar’s Redevelopment Reaches Major Milestone
The massive redevelopment of Sahakar Nagar, Chembur, has achieved a significant breakthrough this week as MHADA issued several key approvals for multiple housing societies within the layout. On January 9 and 12, 2026, official Intimation of Approvals (IOA) and Commencement Certificates were granted for the redevelopment of buildings including Mrugank CHS, Chembur Vaibhav CHS, and Sahakar Nagar Bahujan Seva CHS. This large-scale urban renewal project at C.T.S. No. 48 A and 49 is transforming the area into a modern residential hub, featuring a total of 1,123 new units across various categories—including 520 Transit tenements, 308 HIG (Higher Income Group), 140 MIG (Middle Income Group), and 155 LIG (Low Income Group) apartments. This progress marks a turning point for the long-standing Sahakar Nagar community, promising upgraded infrastructure and enhanced living standards for thousands of Chembur residents.
